Drilling Fluids Laboratory

Hands on analysis of drilling fluids by each student will include:
  • Standard methods for testing drilling fluids
  • Colloidal properties of clays
  • Filtration properties, effects of treating agents
  • Effects of contaminants and chemical treatments
  • Solids analysis, HTHP testing, lubricity
  • Viscous characteristics and control of properties
  • Low water loss, salt water drilling fluids, and alkalinity determination

 

Instrumentation:
  • Fann Viscometer model 39b w/x-y recorder
  • Fann Viscometer model 35 A
  • Offite Model 900 digital viscometer
  • Fann Consistometer model 5STDL
  • Fann Oil and Water retorts
  • Filtration testing - high pressure/high temperature, low pressure/low temperature
  • Rolling Ball viscometer
  • Particle Analysis Sedigraph 5000ET
  • Zetapotentionl & electrophoresis apparatus
  • Complete Mud testing facilities, chemical and physical analysis.
